On Wednesday August 21, Garcia YMLA held its traditional tie-tying ceremonies.
We welcomed our new brothers, learned about why we include the lines 'I look good, I feel good' in our creed, and we were joined by some very special guests!
During the sixth-grade ceremony, incoming students were shown how to tie their ties by their eighth-grade brothers, members of our community, Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion and players from the Austin Bold FC.
Eighth-graders were visited by AISD Superintendent, Dr. Paul Cruz, and Capital Metro CEO, Randy Clarke who both left our campus wearing Garcia YMLA ties!
Our school and our ceremony are incredibly special. So special, in fact, that multi award-winning photojournalist Jay Janner from the Austin American Statesman came over to learn more about what we do. Check out Mr. Janner's feature in the Statesman.
