Gus Garcia YMLA believes that a Fine Arts education is essential for the development of the whole child. Our programs provide students with unique experiences that maximize their creativity and critical-thinking skills, and teach students valuable lessons about self-motivation, dedication, team work and communication.
Gus Garcia YMLA provides five Fine Arts courses for students to pursue:
- Choir
- Instrumental Band and Drumline
- Guitar
- Theatre
- Orchestra
Please visit the Gus Garcia YMLA Music Program website for more information: https://sites.google.com/austinisd.org/ggymla-music-program
Each of these sequential art courses features a meaningful and rigorous curriculum taught by expert staff, and provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote cognitive, creative, emotional and social growth.
The Fine Arts Department provides all entry fees, transportation costs, uniform costs, and initial instrument costs necessary to participate in these organizations.
By enrolling in these courses, students are also eligible to participate in clinics and contests such as All-City Guitar, All-City Band, All-City Choir, UIL Concert and Sight Reading, Middle School One Act Play and various concerts and events throughout the community, including football games and joint performances with the LBJ High School Band.
