Gus Garcia YMLA Fine Arts Department

Gus Garcia YMLA believes that a Fine Arts education is essential for the development of the whole child. Our programs provide students with unique experiences that maximize creativity and critical-thinking skills while teaching valuable lessons in self-motivation, dedication, teamwork, and communication.

Our Fine Arts Department offers four core courses for students to explore and develop their talents:

• Art

• Band

• Guitar

• Orchestra

Each of these sequential courses features a meaningful and rigorous curriculum taught by expert staff, providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote cognitive, creative, emotional, and social growth.

Gus Garcia YMLA provides all entry fees, transportation, uniform costs, and initial instrument costs necessary for students to participate in these programs.

By enrolling in Fine Arts courses, students gain the opportunity to participate in clinics, competitions, and performances, including:

• All-City Guitar, All-City Band, and All-City Choir

• UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations for Band, Orchestra, and Guitar

• JR VASE Regional Art Competitions

• Austin Area Lions Club Peace Poster Contest

• Community concerts, football game performances, and joint performances with our local High School Bands

• Our annual Winter Showcase, Fine Arts Festivals and school concerts, including Beginner & Advanced Band Concerts, Guitar & Orchestra performances, and Holiday Music Events
