Garcia YMLA Library
Our library continues to grow as the heart of campus! New books and table-top games make it a place to read, collaborate, and play. Students are building friendships, practicing problem-solving, and exploring new stories—all in a safe, welcoming environment.

New Library Program: PALS!
What Are PALS?
Austin ISD PALS (Peer Assistance Leadership and Service) is a youth empowerment and peer mentoring program that has served thousands of students since 1980. PALS trains students to be mentors and role models for younger students, promoting service, interpersonal skills, and community-mindedness
At Gus Garcia YMLA, our PALS program partners with LASA High School and Barbara Jordan Elementary. High school students mentor our young men, while YMLA students visit Barbara Jordan Elementary to mentor younger students. This cycle of mentorship develops leadership, responsibility, and a stronger school community.

Scholastic Book Fairs
At Gus Garcia YMLA, our Book Fairs are an exciting tradition that bring our campus community together to celebrate reading. Held twice a year in the library, these fairs give students the chance to explore new books, discover favorite authors, and build their personal collections. Every purchase supports our school by helping us add more engaging titles to our library shelves. When we meet our sales goals, we even earn special events—like our highly anticipated Buy One, Get One Free Fair in May—making reading more accessible and fun for all students. Our Book Fairs are more than just shopping events; they inspire curiosity, literacy, and a lifelong love of learning.
