    The Library Continues to Grow!

Our library continues to grow as the heart of our campus! We are excited to share that new books have recently been added to our collection, giving students even more opportunities to explore new stories and genres. Alongside our books, the addition of table-top games has made the library an even more inviting space for students to gather, collaborate, and engage in creative play.

These additions have sparked fresh excitement for reading and learning. Students are not only checking out books, but also building friendships, practicing problem-solving skills, and finding joy in spending time together in a safe and welcoming environment.

We’re thrilled to see the library thriving as a hub for curiosity, imagination, and community!

    Recent Events:

Author Visit: Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro

    9/29/25

We were so fortunate to attend the special BookPeople / Texas Book Festival event featuring authors Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro as they discussed their new book The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure. The event took place at the AISD Performing Arts Center, and the excitement in the room was contagious!

Students were thrilled to see their favorite authors in person, and the joy on their faces—cheering, clapping, even making heart signs from their seats—showed just how meaningful it was to be part of this experience. Being surrounded by so many kids who love books was truly inspiring, and it made a lasting impact on our readers.

A huge thank you to Sadler Means YWLA for helping us secure free tickets so our students could share in this unforgettable literary celebration!

    Author Visit: Brandon Mull

    9/8/25

At the start of this month, our students had the special opportunity to hear from author Brandon Mull, and it was such an inspiring experience for our campus! From start to finish, students were fully engaged, and many who had not shown a strong interest in reading before left excited to dive into his books. Brandon’s ability to connect with young readers through adventure, imagination, and relatable characters sparked a genuine enthusiasm for stories.

What makes his visit stand out was not only his exciting storytelling, but also the deeper messages of courage, friendship, and perseverance—values that truly resonate with our young men. One of the highlights was when students participated in a shared storytelling activity, with each student adding their own piece to the narrative. It was both creative and fun, and the kids loved seeing how their ideas came together to form a story.

We are so thankful for this opportunity to inspire our students and continue encouraging a love of reading!

Author Visit: Jeremy Craft & Alexander Kwame

    5/15/25

Created by real-life rivals, this hilarious illustrated story features two talented fifth graders going head-to-head in a competition for the ages. It’s artist vs. writer with plenty of shady double crosses as J and K plot their way to the top. This epic match-up from Newbery medal winners Kwame Alexander (The Crossover) and Jerry Craft (New Kid) celebrates comics, creativity, and the magic of collaboration.

    Austin Public Library Field Trip

    5/19/25

Our students took a trip to the Austin Public Library to visit Teen Central, a room on the 3rd floor of the Central Library where everything is reserved just for teens age 13-18. Teens have tons of room for studying, hanging out, group meetups, and more.  We were able to use their 12 Alienware gaming computers, try out their instruments, and use their Media Creation Equipment!

Instruments are available for playing any time the APL library is open (we do pull the amps during other events to help share the space)
