About our Band Directors

Mr. Wright

Mr. Wright is the passionate and inspiring Head Band and Orchestra Director at Gus Garcia YMLA. He leads both programs with dedication, helping students develop their musical skills, confidence, and love for performance. Under his guidance, students in band and orchestra learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, and artistic expression while preparing for concerts, competitions, and other performances. Mr. Wright’s expertise, leadership, and commitment to the arts make him an invaluable mentor and a cornerstone of our school’s fine arts community.

Ms. Gordon

Ms. Gordon is our dedicated Guitar teacher and Assistant Band Director at Gus Garcia YMLA. She inspires students to develop their musical skills, explore their creativity, and perform with confidence. Whether guiding guitar students through challenging pieces or supporting our band programs, Ms. Gordon’s passion for music and teaching helps students grow as musicians and as individuals. Her energy, expertise, and encouragement make her an invaluable part of our school’s fine arts community.

Fall Events

Homecoming Performance

Our YMLA Band is excited to perform at this year’s Homecoming celebration! The students have been working hard to prepare an energetic and entertaining performance that highlights their talent, teamwork, and school spirit.

Under the direction of our band directors, the musicians have been practicing diligently to perfect their performance. Families, friends, and community members are invited to come out, cheer on our students, and enjoy an evening filled with music, football, and celebration of all that makes our school special.

Winter Band Concert

On Wednesday, December 11, Gus Garcia YMLA will host its Beginner and Advanced Band Concerts! This exciting evening will highlight the musical growth and dedication of our band students as they perform a variety of selections they’ve been preparing throughout the semester. The Beginner Band will showcase the progress they’ve made learning their instruments, while the Advanced Band will deliver polished performances that demonstrate their skill and teamwork.

Families and community members are encouraged to attend and support our young musicians as we celebrate their hard work and the joy of music at Gus Garcia YMLA.

Spring Events

Band UIL Competition

On April 3–4, the Gus Garcia YMLA Band will travel to Bastrop to compete in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. This event is a major milestone for our student musicians, as they showcase their hard work, discipline, and musical growth before a panel of judges. The UIL experience challenges students to perform prepared concert pieces and demonstrate their ability to sight-read new music with precision and teamwork.

We are incredibly proud of our band members for their dedication and commitment, and we look forward to cheering them on as they represent Gus Garcia YMLA with pride and excellence.
