About Ms. Gordon, our Guitar Teacher

Ms. Gordon is our dedicated Guitar teacher and Assistant Band Director at Gus Garcia YMLA. She inspires students to develop their musical skills, explore their creativity, and perform with confidence. Whether guiding guitar students through challenging pieces or supporting our band programs, Ms. Gordon’s passion for music and teaching helps students grow as musicians and as individuals. Her energy, expertise, and encouragement make her an invaluable part of our school’s fine arts community.

Fine Arts Festival

On Monday, December 9, Gus Garcia YMLA will proudly present its annual Fine Arts Festival! This exciting event will showcase performances from our talented Guitar and Orchestra students, along with an Art Showcase featuring creative works from our Beginner Art and Advance Art classes. Guests can look forward to an evening filled with beautiful music, stunning artwork, festive spirit, and artistic expression as our students share what they’ve been working on throughout the semester.

Families and community members are invited to join us in celebrating the arts, our students’ hard work, and the vibrant creativity that thrives at Gus Garcia YMLA.

Get ready for an amazing showcase of Austin ISD Middle and High School Guitar Programs! The concert will feature the top five guitar players from participating middle and high schools. Join the fun at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd.) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6.

Spring Events

Guitar UIL Competition 

On April 13–14, Gus Garcia YMLA’s Guitar students will participate in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation. This event gives our guitarists the opportunity to perform prepared pieces and demonstrate their sight-reading skills in front of a panel of judges, highlighting their dedication, practice, and musical growth throughout the year. The UIL experience challenges students to perform with precision, confidence, and teamwork, and it is a wonderful way to celebrate their hard work.

We are proud of our guitar students and excited to see them represent Gus Garcia YMLA with excellence and school spirit.
